Motto: Quit Trying = Failure
Which is to say, when you stop trying to reach the goal, you fail at the effort by default.
So, I keep going…even if it’s restarting the same training plan. I’ve rolled my training plan forward to the next “doable” 50K race. Or should that be “trainable,” since I’m not “doing” so much?
I might not be getting in all the training I need to stay on track for the ultra-marathons I select as my “goal” race, but I am “racing.” I completed two trail races in May, 6- and 8-mile events respectively, and I have two more this month. I’d hoped to do the XTERRA 21K last weekend at Cameron Park in Waco, but with the wet spring/early summer, I didn’t want to risk a third fall on the trails in that park. I am going to do a half-marathon there, but it’ll be my own training run and not an event–as soon as it drys out more!
The wildflowers have been GORGEOUS this spring. In fact, they are still blooming. It’s June! (Can you believe it’s June?!)
Pics I snapped during my Monday 5-mile run.
Despite my one-day-a-week training runs and no long runs greater than 9-miles, my endurance steadily improves. I’ve been able to readily, if not easily, complete two ~9 mile trail runs over technical and challenging terrain during May. I’m registered for a 25K (15.5M) this weekend and next. I think that distance is too much to jump to this weekend, particularly given the amount of elevation gain on the course. However, the 25K I have for the following weekend, might be doable.
It’s a night event. Assuming I’m hydrated like I should be (Drink Terry, drink!), I’m confident I can do the distance. I just worry how bad it’s going to hurt afterwards since I haven’t really trained to that distance or time on my feet. I think it’s a 2-loop course, so I have an easy out after the first loop.
I’m only a little over a month away from the tough 27-miler in July. With no half-marathons finished yet, I let that distance go and will do the half-marathon for that event. Mid-September for the 50K is rushing at me. I was starting to feel the stress of knowing I wasn’t going to be trained appropriately for it. Soooo…
What’s the next 50K I have on my schedule. Ah, Dinosaur Valley Endurance Run in November. I love that event and that park. Tada! New goal race which fits perfectly into a restart of the 26-week training plan.
