I finally completed all the training runs in my plan for a given week. I’m making a note and hoping I can repeat it week 5 as well.
Not to discount the accomplishment, as I always seem to pick at one when I have it: As I was scheduled for the half-marathon on the weekend, the training runs during the week weren’t too demanding. Plus 4 days of non-contiguous rest days.
Started off with the longest training run for the week, 6 miles, on Monday morning. Had little to no trouble with it, despite a lateish start and temperature almost into the 80s. Gorgeous morning with a nice breeze that actually felt cool–as opposed to venting off a blast furnace. I’m more than a little shocked at my average pace of sub 17:00 min/mi. Love the progress, though.
Two rest days then an easy 3 miles on the treadmill at the fitness center while I waited for Dad to finish up physical therapy. That was the first time I’d actually interacted with another exerciser in the center. (I blame my socially anxious past. I still don’t usually speak unless spoken to. It’s why I don’t know any of my neighbors. :-/) She was on the treadmill beside me and overheard me telling Dad (when he called me from the other room) that I still had a half mile to go and would he wait in the lobby for me.
“How far are you going,” she asked me. Since I’d messed up the tracker on the control panel when I pushed the wrong buttons, resetting and restarting it, I think I only had a half mile or so showing for my 30+ min effort. I hate when that happens because I can never trust my memory. Anyway, we had a nice chat while both of us strided along on the treadmills. She lives off Hwy 84 in the RV park and walks her dog every morning. She usually does a mile on the treadmill every other day or so. Her son is a wounded veteran who can no longer run the marathons he once did. She’s 76 and has finished at least one 5K in her past, although she said it was hard because of the hills. “But you did it!” I congratulated her. 😀 There’s all kinds of wonderful interesting people out there if I’d just initiate and participate in conversations more.
Only thing after the treadmill run was the half-marathon on Saturday and another rest day on Sunday. I wrote a race report and have all my pictures of the day posted there. I will say here that the race went very well and I’m more than happy with my efforts. Also, that I finished 13.56 miles! Whoop-whoop!!!
